Brittany Keyes, DPT

Clean Air Coordinator

Dr.  Brittany Keyes, DPT,  is a physical therapist who is passionate about climate action and public health who joined our growing HCW team as our Clean Air Coordinator.  Brittany is a mom and former local-elected official from Beloit, Wisconsin, who brings her experience, expertise, and energy to advocate for communities across Wisconsin.

Brittany earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Iowa.  Brittany started her professional career at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, working in the hospital and outpatient setting.  In the hospital she enjoyed working on the ortho-trauma and ICU-transplant teams before she transferred to Sports Medicine.  Brittany continued to work as a physical therapist after moving back to Wisconsin, expanding her practice to include Women’s Health.  As a health professional she felt the growing concern of climate change and the impacts on her patients and community.  From the first HCW conference (formerly WHPCA) Brittany found joy, community, and active-hope-in-action as she participated as an active member and volunteer.

Brittany served on the Beloit City Council from 2020-2022.  During that time she helped integrate environmental and social sustainability into the city’s strategic plan, lead the city to proclaim a goal of carbon neutrality by 2040, and push the city to become a Green Tier Community.  While on city council Brittany became aware of the growing air pollution issue across Southern Wisconsin.  Appreciating the broad and devastating public health impacts, she led a collaborative community science effort to start monitoring the air locally.  This project has grown to the establishment of the Stateline Clean Air Coalition, which Brittany serves as the convener.

Brittany has expanded her advocacy to communities across Wisconsin providing community presentations and engaging elected officials, regulators, and utilities, working toward the goals of closing all coal plants, preventing all new methane-gas plants, and ensuring residents across  Wisconsin benefit from the just transition of the energy sector.  Brittany also serves as the Climate Justice Chair for the NAACP WI State Conference and is an active member of the Beloit League of Women Voters and the WI APTA, serving on their JEDI Committee.  For fun she enjoys spending time with her family, joining efforts with her husband to replace grass with native plants, and being active in nature.
